Applying to UAS and job application materials

Alaska has few choices for teacher certification programs. There are only three secondary programs, all through the UA system: UA Fairbanks, UA Anchorage, and UA Southeast. UAS has a Masters in Teaching program that is widely regarded as the best in the state, and a family friend worked in its MAT program for some years and spoke highly of it. When I heard that UAS also offered a one-year option with an intensive summer session, I knew that the degree could work for me and my family.

Applying to UAS was an intensive process. To see my prepared Statement of Professional Objectives, click here. To see my acceptance letter, click here.

I was required to take the Praxis Core Academic Content for Educators (Praxis I) in order to be admitted. This consists of three hour-long tests (reading, writing, and math). Later, I had to take the Praxis content exams for my areas of endorsement, Social Studies and Earth/Space Sciences. I have taken and passed Social Studies, Earth/Space Sciences, and English Language Arts. I will be endorsed in these areas as well as general science when I receive my professional teacher certification in June 2017.
